Ed’s obituary as it appeared in The Herald News on Sunday, May 19, 2013:

A former resident of Fall River and Swansea, MA, Captain Edmond (Butch) F. Duclos Jr., 70, passed away on May 4th, 2013. Mr. Duclos fought his diagnosis of cancer with the same strength, determination, stubbornness and optimism that he faced all aspects of his life.

Mr. Duclos was born February 6th 1943, in Fall River Ma, to Jeanne (Blanchette) and Edmond Duclos Sr. He was employed by General Motors in Framingham MA and a proud member of the UAW for thirty years. Prior to his career at GM he served in the Air Force. A licensed Captain, Butch owned and operated a successful fishing and SCUBA diving business during the 1980Â’s and 1990Â’s. Butch loved doing anything outdoors, especially being on, in and under the water. Mr. Duclos was avid angler who enjoyed fishing for striped bass, tuna and swordfish off the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

A self-taught expert of all things electrical and mechanical, Butch cherished time building and using long wave radios. Over the years Mr. Duclos (WA1ZCB) won several awards and was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association.

Mr. Duclos was a loving father to Keith Duclos of Brookline MA and Karen Mercer of Dighton MA. Papa, as he was known to Colby Costello, Tori Mercer, Kaiden Mercer, Abram Duclos and Nolan Duclos enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and teaching them how to fish and clam. Mr. Duclos leaves his beloved partner of 18 years Marguerite Bernard of Fall River MA. Butch is survived by his mother Jeanne Duclos of Swansea MA and his brothers James, Raymond and Paul as well as his sister Janet Hurd.
