Arthur Valois Obituary

SALEM, MA. — Arthur J. Valois, 89, of Salem and formerly of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at Grosvenor Park on Monday, May 25, 2009, after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Mary Josephine (Donth) Valois and son of the late Amedee and Julienne (Lanoue) Valois.
He was born in New Bedford and lived in Dartmouth prior to relocating to live in Salem a few years ago. He was a high school graduate and was a highly decorated WW II Army Air Corps Veteran and held the rank of S/Sgt. He served in many battles over Germany, Air Offensive-Europe, Normandy and Northern France.
He was formerly employed as an inspector for Raytheon until his retirement.
Mr. Valois was a Docent at the Whaling Museum. He volunteered his services and was very instrumental of getting the National Park Service in New Bedford.
He was a member of the Radio Club and Civil Defense. He also played guitar for Rogers Hometowners.
Survivors include his daughter, Carole F. Brindamour and her husband, Roy of Marblehead; his brother, Alcide Valois of New Bedford; his sister, Doris Poyerd of Staten Island, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday evening 5-7 PM at Rock Funeral Home. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Saturday at 8 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 9 AM. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery.
