Congratulations to Amanda Mendes, recipient of SEMARA’s 2011 $500 Scholarship Award! The award was issued to her the evening of Thursday May 5, 2011 at the SEMARA Clubhouse. Here is the full press release:
The Southeastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association, Inc. (SEMARA) of Dartmouth, Massachusetts is pleased to announce Amanda Mendes as the winner of the 2011 $500 Scholarship Award. Amanda is a student at New Bedford High School and has a long list of community services and extracurricular activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society, ranked 30 in her class of 562 and has been accepted to the nursing program at UMass Dartmouth.
Amanda attended the SEMARA May Business Meeting and read her 600 word essay. She told us about her introduction to amateur radio by her grandfather, Angelo Mendes, D44BS who lives in Cape Verde.
She is receiving her award from SEMARA President Marcel Dumont, W1MLD as her parents, Scholarship Chairman H. Eddleston, K1USW and SEMARA Treasurer Michael McDonald, KB1NB look on.
