N1MVY, Joseph E. Demers

Joseph E. Demers, Jr., age 87, of North Dartmouth passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2015 with his daughters by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Constance (Mainville) Demers on May 30, 2015.

Gene was born in New Bedford to the late Joseph E. and Agnes (Glennon) Demers, and lived in the city until 1963 when he moved to Dartmouth. Gene was a proud member of the Seabees who served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an accomplished musician who played accordion both professionally and casually with various local orchestras, and instructed many students throughout the years. He was also a lifelong member of the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford and their Copicut Archers, and was an amateur Ham Radio Operator.

He leaves two daughters, Michele McGinn and her husband Michael of Lenoir, NC and Nanette Breton and her husband Andy of Fairhaven; 3 grandchildren, Dana, Jaret and Renee Breton; and 2 great-grandchildren Logan and Ryan Breton. He was the brother of Elinor Lariviere of Acushnet and the late Paul A. Demers.
